What is Give a Seat / Take a Seat?
It's our very own, very special but very simple 'pay forward' scheme: not everybody can make it to Edinburgh for the Festival, and not everybody who's in Edinburgh during the Festival can afford to see all the many shows they'd love to see. This is our way of bringing you together. How does it work? Anyone who wants to give a seat can do so here. All you need to give a seat is £12, the average cost of a ticket. You can give as many seats as you like. All seats donated in this way will be made available here to anyone who finds it difficult to pay for tickets themselves. Any catch? No, there's no catch. There are no means tests and no terms and conditions. It's simple and straightforward. All we ask from anybody who wants to give a seat is the price of a seat. All we ask from anybody who wants to take a seat is a reason and a willingness to do a short write up so we can share it with the person who gave the seat and with everyone else generally. What if the seat I've given isn't taken? If somebody requests a seat online and then doesn't show up, we'll offer it somebody else on the night. There are plenty of people in Edinburgh who want to see shows any day of the week. |
What if I take a seat and I don't like the show?
Well, that's just part of the joy of the Festival, isn't it: some shows you like, others not so much. You can be honest about it, you're under no obligation to like our show, whether you've paid for your seat yourself or not. Will I be told when to see the show? Once the seat has been given, it's as good as any other, so you'll be able to choose which performance you attend. You'll have to tell us in advance, so we can book it off for you, and obviously we can't book you into shows that are already sold out. What about privacy? We're not going to pass on your details to anyone, whether you give or take a seat. If you give a seat you have the option to enter your name at the start and this will then appear on the credits page as a special thanks credit. If you leave this field blank, nobody will ever know of your generosity: the person who gets the seat you've given will not know who you are. When they've seen the show and posted their write-up, we'll send you the link. If you then want to get in touch with each other, that's up to you. Similarly, if you take a seat and want to post your write-up anonymously, that's no problem. This all sounds lovely, but can't I just make a simple donation? Of course you can. |
